This page supports the current subject-focused review of Snell Library's serial subscriptions. Background
The Library, the Faculty and Deans of the Colleges are engaging in a rigorous examination of the journals collection, with the goal of optimizing the use of available resources. The aim of the review is to identify less-heavily used titles for cancellation, and to re-invest the savings in subscriptions to new titles more closely oriented to the current research needs of NU's faculty and students. It is a necessary exercise, even though we hope to ameliorate the worst impacts of price inflation over the current and forthcoming year by all the appropriate fiscal means at our disposal. We also hope to make provision for new resources for newly recruited faculty and new research fronts.Requests for New Journal or Database Subscriptions
A key continuing objective of this review is to free up money for the purchase of new journal subscriptions.
Please use this form to submit your requests for new titles. Please do this whether or not you have asked in previous years for the titles concerned. The Library will review the requests on an ongoing basis.
The deadline for the submission of departmental journal review lists to be sent back to your liaison is June 30 2009.
The departmental journal lists will be reviewed by the Library this summer and a list of proposed cancellations will be posted here as well as a form to submit reprieves. Reprieve requests will then be reviewed by the Library and a finalized list of cancellations will be posted here as well. Finalized cancellations will take effect from January 2010.
Some of the titles proposed for cancellation may be available, at least for now, within one of our subscription databases of general collected journal literature such as Lexis-Nexis or Ebsco. To find out if alternative electronic versions are currently available, check the Library's Ejournal Finder.Help
