In 1942, Bouvé-Boston School of Physical Education also became affiliated with Tufts University. The first class graduated from Tufts with degrees in 1943; by 1945 all BBSPE students earned degrees from Tufts. In 1949, the trustees at Simmons College finally announced that they were dissolving the relationship between Simmons and the BBSPE. Wishing to continue to be a degree-granting program, then-director Ruth Page Sweet negotiated a new affiliation with Tufts University. The new school boasted one of the finest medical schools in the area, which was a marked benefit for the BBSPE program, especially its physical therapy courses. Arrangements moved swiftly, and BBSPE opened its doors on the Tufts campus in Medford, Massachusetts in the fall of 1950. For pictures of the new campus, click on the image above. |
