In the later decades of the nineteenth century, the Boston Normal School of Gymnastics trained many women to teach physical education, which at that time focused on Swedish gymnastics, corrective posture work, and a few sports like field hockey. B.N.S.G. graduates were fiercely devoted to both their school and their profession; it is impressive but not surprising that seven of B.N.S.G.'s graduates decided to found their own school.
