Marjorie
Bouvé was born in 1879 in Hull, Massachusetts. She attended the
Boston Normal School of Gymnastics (diploma) and Boston University (Bachelor
of Science in Education), traveled extensively, and even operated a jigsaw
puzzle business out of her family home. After completing her schooling,
Miss Bouvé taught at Bradford Academy, Smith College, and in the
Boston public schools before becoming the founding director of the Boston
School of Physical Education.
Miss Bouvé
served as director of the Bouvé School from 1925 until 1930, when
she assumed that position at the Bouvé-Boston School of Physical
Education, a position she held until 1948, when she became director emerita.
She was a member of several national organizations devoted to advancing
physical education, and the sixth president of the Eastern District Association
of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
A passionate advocate for her profession, Miss Bouvé died in 1970.
