During the
camp session of the summer of 1919, the students formed the idea of creating
a student self-government body at the Boston School of Physical Education.
They decided to petition Miss Bouvé directly, and she agreed. The
students would be responsible for "quiet, order, and decorum"
on and about school grounds, as well as encouraging and enforcing the
honor code. Faculty were asked not to reprimand individual students, but
to instead discuss the matter with self-government officers, who would
then address the problem. These basic principles underlaid all future
student government at Bouvé.
