Scope and Content Note:The collection includes flyers, schedules, photographs and newspaper articles related to the celebratory events of May 1993, statistics about the women students of 1943, and contact information for them used in 1993.  The photographs include images of the attendees, speakers, events, the display mounted in Richards Hall, and copies of the photographs used in that display.  Also included is a videotape of the symposium entitled "Women Juggling Career, Family and Personal Lives."  The collection does not contain any information on the development or planning of the events.
Historical Note:In 1943 Northeastern University enrolled women in its undergraduate day divisions for the first time.  In May 1993 NU's Women's Studies Program and Office of University Relations organized events to celebrate the 33 women who enrolled in 1943 and honor all the undergraduate women of Northeastern.  As part of Undergraduate Women at Northeastern University Month, the 50th Anniversary of Undergraduate Women celebration included three major events: a reunion for the women who enrolled in 1943, a speech by Patricia Ireland, president of the National Organization of Women (NOW), and a discussion with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, held May 25, 1993.  The reunion, attended by 11 of the 1943 enrollees, included a symposium, afternoon tea with current undergraduate women, and a dinner with University President John A. Curry.
