Scope and Content Note:This collection documents the founding of the Office of Institutional Advancement, its initial supervision of the Vice Presidents for Development, Alumni Relations, and Corporate Partnerships, and the office's collaboration with different areas of the University. The collection contains Leadership Campaign and Century Fund material and meeting minutes, reports, and agendas. This collection also contains materials on fundraising activities, donors, donor recruitment, and donations, including materials from the Huntington Society which honors donors. Of interest are promotional materials relating to Northeastern's #1 ranking by U.S. News and World Report in their list of schools that combine classroom experience with real-world work experience. The collection also includes campaign videos and videos pertaining to University-wide events, such as the inauguration of President Aoun. The collection is divided into two series: 1. Administration and 2. Media.
Historical Abstract:In 2001, the office of University Development and the Office of Alumni Relations merged under the name Office of Institutional Advancement. The Office of Institutional Advancement is responsible for overseeing the staff, budget, and operations of all alumni, corporate, and development activities.

Historical Note

In 2001, the office of University Development and the Office of Alumni Relations merged under the name Office of Institutional Advancement. The position of Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement was created to supervise and foster cooperation among the vice presidents for Development, Alumni Relations, and Corporate Partnerships. The Office of Institutional Advancement is responsible for overseeing the staff, budget, and operations of all alumni, corporate, and development activities and was responsible for directing Northeastern University's $200 million Leadership Campaign until its completion in 2006. In 2007, the Office of Institutional Advancement was renamed the Office of University Advancement.
Chronology
2001Office of University Development combines with Office of Alumni Affairs and becomes the Office of Institutional Advancement. Robert Cunningham becomes Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
2006Leadership Campaign to raise $200,000,000 in funds for the University reaches completion.
2007Diane MacGillivray appointed Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Office of Institutional Advancement is renamed Office of University Advancement.

Summary:

The records of this series document the daily activities of the Office of Institutional Advancement. Included are meeting minutes, newsletters, brochures, reports, and materials from the Leadership Campaign and the Century Fund, including information regarding financial goals, fundraising methods, and assessment. In addition, the collection contains marketing materials from Alumni Relations, building plans for the Kostas Research Center, and materials from the Legacy Scholarship Campaign. Of interest are promotional materials relating to Northeastern's #1 ranking by U.S. News and World Report in their 2003 assessment of schools that combine classroom experience with real-world work experience.
