The Northeastern University Archives and Special Collections Department visual resources reflect our two-fold mission to document the history of Northeastern University (NU) and the diverse and under-represented populations of Boston.
Four image collections document Northeastern University events, physical plant, academic and research activities, faculty and staff, sporting events, and student life: Office of University Photography (A62), Jet Negatives (A60), Jet Sport Negatives (A59), and the NU Photograph Collection (A103). Collectively, the Office of University Photography, Jet Negatives, and Jet Sport Negatives consist of negatives and contacts sheets dating between 1959 and 2002. A detailed index of the contents of each collection is available online. The NU Photograph Collection is a collection of Northeastern University related photographic prints organized by subject. It also contains positive prints of some negatives from the Office of University Photography, Jet Negatives, and Jet Sport Negatives collections certain of these images are digitized and available: Northeastern's Historical Photographs. More images are added weekly.
The Archives and Special Collections Department also preserves and makes accessible important at-risk historical records of Boston's African-American, gay and lesbian, Chinese, and Latino communities. Most of these collections contain significant visual resources. A detailed inventory of each collection is available online through the list of Boston history collections.
