Freedom House flourished under the constant fund raising efforts of the Board of Directors, co-directors, and community members. Early efforts included bazaars, and a 1951 concert by Marian Anderson. Later annual Ebony Fashion Fairs and concerts by Pearl Bailey, Nancy Wilson, Nina Simone, and Cab and Chris Calloway were socially and financially successful.

	Mrs. Melnea Cass received a certificate granting her charter membership on the Board of Directors of Freedom House. The certificate was awarded by Mrs. Kathryn Foran Furculo, wife of the Governor of Massachusetts, 1957.
