"We got up to Mont Faucon there and this artillery battle was going on. It was this German, uh, I think it was just one German aviator came over and he shot these incendiary bullets into our big balloons, you know; the observation balloons. He brought down three of them, see, in flames. We, we tried to get him; we ran for our trucks and tried to get our Springfield rifles and shoot them, and try to get him with those, see. Hit his gas tank, set him on fire, but those focus were so fast, you’d have to shoot a mile ahead (inaudible) to meet the bullets. So we didn’t get him. Anyway, we were pretty much pleased although we were in the rest area then (inaudible)."
