R: "I was wondering did you have any feelings about the war before you went over?"
S: "Yeah, you know at first it looked like we were going over on the side of Germany, because everything favored the Germans. Then all of the sudden, Wilson decided it was on the side of the allies. So we went across in favor of the allied army. I don’t know. It was more, it was sort of an adventure for us. You know, it wasn’t patriotism really, it’s because we wanted to see what it was like. It was far from patriotic."
