Hoping to defeat the anti-gay referendum and save gay and lesbian rights, the Greater Boston Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance initiated a voter registration drive within the gay community and its supporters. The Alliance was formed in 1983 as a grassroots member organization concerned with gay and lesbian rights in the Boston area. In 1994, the organization extended its efforts statewide.
