Center Gay Dance flyers (1971)
In 1971, the Gay Community Center was established in the Charles
Street Meeting House in Cambridge, then a center of political and
cultural activism for gay men. Envisioned as an alternative to bars,
the Center sponsored dances and a coffee house, and provided meeting
space for gay groups. These flyers advertise gay dances sponsored
by the Gay Community Center. The Center closed a few months after
it opened due to internal disputes. From
the William J. Canfield papers.
