In 1975, Northeastern University students petitioned that the Gay Student Organization be recognized as an official student activity. In 1983, NU included sexual orientation in its non-discrimination statement. The NU Organization for Alternative Lifestyles, as the GSO was later called, sponsored this dance in 1989. Now known as the NU Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay, Straight, and Transgendered Alliance (NUBiLAGA)., the organization continues to represent the interests and concerns of the bisexual, lesbian, gay, transgender, and undecided communities at NU.
