University Homophile Club flyer (1970)
“…homosexuals are beginning to realize that
to change society’s attitudes, they must educate the public.”
The Boston University Homophile Club was established on December
4, 1969 and was the first gay student organization in Boston. This
flyer compares the persecution of homosexuals with that of Jews
and African Americans. Instead of being “mute and muted,”
the BU Homophile Club responded with a series of lectures to educate
the community about gay lifestyles and issues. From
the William J. Canfield papers.
