Remember Stonewall
flyer (1976)
“…to publicly celebrate gay sexuality and
reclaim the right to self-expression of our bodies.”
Protesting “getting on the bandwagon of straight culture,”
the Fort Hill Faggots for Freedom marked the U.S. Bicentennial by
recognizing the history of gay oppression in the United States and
calling for “militant solidarity” in the struggle for
gay liberation and civil rights. The Fort Hill Faggots for Freedom
was a collective formed in Roxbury’s Fort Hill section in
1969 for draft resistors and their supporters. From
the William J. Canfield papers.
