Women
in the Workforce
Let Life Be
Yours video clips (1981)
For many women in the
early 20th century, education and employment were dependent on the
socio-economic status of their families. Employment as clerical
workers, domestics, saleswomen, or factory workers was common, and
college education was often limited to women from wealthy families.
These six interviews of working women were compiled by the now-defunct
Oral History Center in Cambridge, Mass. in 1981. The women discuss
their lives and what led them to their work. From
The Oral History Center records.
