Richard Estes is an artist best known for his photorealistic paintings of modern urban landscapes that are reflective, clean, and inanimate. He is regarded as one of the founders of the international photorealist movement of the late 1960s. His meticulously detailed paintings, based on color photographs, show light shining on or reflecting off objects, emphasizing the fleeting quality of reflections. His works have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Whitney Museum, New York; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
