Northeastern University Libraries’ Digital Media Design Studio is a collaborative and interdisciplinary learning environment for creating course-related multimedia presentations, projects, and portfolios. In the following workshops, participants can familiarize themselves with the technology and possibilities offered in the Studio.

Introduction to the DMDS

Learn how the DMDS Mac desktops are organized and what peripheral equipment and accessories are available for recording, playback and media.

Video Production and Recording Basics

This workshop will instruct you in the basics of video recording. Find out the importance of storyboards and scripts. Familiarize yourself with basic and advanced settings of a video camera. Learn the theories behind good shot composition, lighting, and the rule of thirds.

Introduction to Final Cut Pro

Learn how to navigate through the basic components of Final Cut Pro. Learn about bins and bin structure. Learn the different ways to capture footage. Begin learning the basic concepts of editing.
October 1, 2008, 12-1:15pm

Introduction to Editing in Final Cut Pro

Learn how to edit in Final Cut Pro. This workshop will help you create a professional quality video using your editing knowledge. Learn the difference between insert edit and overwrite edit. Learn how to creatively use video filters and color correcting in your projects.

Photoshop Basics

Learn the basics of image adjustment and editing. Learn how to paint, draw, and type in Photoshop. After everything is created, learn how to bring it all together to fit your ideas.

Illustrator Basics

This workshop teaches how to create images through the basic tools of Illustrator. Leave with an understanding of vector images and type. Learn how to create, edit, and bring your ideas to the screen.

Take Illustrator to the Web

Learn how to go from start to finish with readying your Illustrator files for the web. Understand layer organization and appearance, all post creation.
November 26, 2008, 12-1:15pm

Flash Basics

Learn how to create and animate images in Flash. The workshop covers drawing, shape, and text creation. Basic keyframe and tween animation will be taught as well.
