To Snell Library

Public Transportation

Orange Line and Attleboro/Stoughton commuter rail riders go to the Ruggles Street station. Use exit door marked Northeastern. Turn right on the walkway that runs between the gazebo and the Egan Research Center. Keep straight on this walkway; Snell Library is the building straight ahead.

Green Line riders take the "E" or "Arborway" trolley to the Northeastern University stop. Cross to the south side of Huntington Avenue (the same side as the YMCA), follow the brick walkway through the Krenzman Quadrangle, staying to the right past the clock and the Curry Student Center until you reach an open plaza. The Snell Library building is straight ahead.

Bus riders take the #39 bus to the Northeastern University stop, and follow the same directions as for Green Line riders to walk to the Snell Library.

By Car

Directions to Visitor Pay Parking at the Renaissance Park Garage, 835 Columbus Ave.:

From the West - Take Mass. Pike (I-90) east into the Boston area. Take Exit 22 (Copley Square), and bear right toward Copley. Proceed to the first traffic light, and turn right onto Dartmouth Street. Take the next right onto Columbus Avenue. Enter the Renaissance Parking Garage, about 3/4 mile on your right.

From the North or South - Take Rte. 93 (Southeast Expressway), to exit 18 (Massachusetts Avenue). Continue onto Melnea Cass Boulevard for two miles until the end. Turn left at the light. Enter the Renaissance Park Garage on your right.

From the North, alternate route - Take Rte. 93 south, and exit at the Leverett Connector, following signs to Storrow Drive. Proceed west to the Fenway exit. Follow signs for Boylston Street inbound, then bear right immediately onto Westland Avenue. Continue straight between the marble pillars. At the third set of lights where Westland Avenue ends, turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue. Proceed to the third traffic light, and turn right onto Columbus Avenue. Enter the Renaissance Park Garage, about 3/4 of a mile down on the right.

Parking

Parking is available for a fee at the Renaissance Park Garage, located on the corner of Columbus Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard.

Leave yourself about 10 minutes to walk from the Renaissance Park Garage to the library!

To walk to the Snell Library from the garage, take the exit marked "east." Enter the parking lot, turn towards the campus, and take the footbridge in front of you, crossing over the subway and rail lines. Bear right and you will see Snell Library straight ahead; it's a grey building with staggered rear facade and extended porches (loggia) around the other three sides.

A ramp is also available: cross the parking lot and proceed towards the employee garage, then take the ramp to the bridge across the rail lines. Turn left and proceed through the sculpture garden. The Snell Library is the first building on your left as you emerge from the sculpture garden.

Leave yourself about 10 minutes to walk from the Renaissance Park Garage to the library!

To the O'Bryant African American Institute Library

Located on 40 Leon Street.

Follow directions above for public transportation and driving directions.

From the Green Line and #39 Bus, walk along the south side of Huntington Avenue heading west away from the YMCA (and toward the Museum of Fine Arts, if you know where that is). Turn left on Leon Street. The Institute is on your left.

From the Orange Line Ruggles stop, use the Northeastern exit and turn left. Pass in front of Ryder hall and turn right on Leon Street. The Institute is on your right.

To walk to the African-American Institute Library from the Renaissance Parking Garage, after crossing over the subway and rail lines on the footbridge, bear left. Pass in front of the Ruggles T station and Ryder Hall. Turn left on Leon Street.
